The Complete PPF Maintenance Playbook
Keep the gloss for 10 years

First-7-day rules, the 5-step hand-wash SOP, and fixes for yellow edges, bubbles, and lifting. Written by LETS GET WRAP technicians to stretch your GSWF PPF gloss to 10 years.

Day-One Rules

First 14 Days Timeline

Hours 0–24

Adhesive is still curing. No detergents. Do not touch edges.

Day 1–3

Rinse dust with clean water only. No car wash, no pressure-washer within 30cm of any seam.

Day 4–7

Light haze or trapped moisture at seams is normal curing artifact — do not puncture.

Day 8–14

Fully crosslinked. Normal hand wash resumes. Apply PPF-safe ceramic top coat.

Wash SOP

The 5-Step Hand-Wash

Follow these 5 steps every 2 weeks. PPF gloss and hydrophobicity stay above 90% of factory spec.

  1. Pre-rinse (pressure)

Rinse top-down to flush grit. Keep pressure 80–120 bar and nozzle at least 40cm from bodywork.

  2. Foam pre-soak

Apply pH 6–8 neutral shampoo (no acid, no alkaline). Dwell 3–5 minutes to lift contaminants.

  3. Two-bucket hand wash

Separate rinse + wash buckets. Microfibre mitt, top-down, straight-line strokes only. Never circular.

  4. Rinse + dry

Rinse top-down. Blot with long-pile drying towel. Never drag chamois across PPF edges.

  5. Edge inspection

Check every seam after each wash. If you see lifting, message us — do not press down yourself.

Troubleshooting

5 Common Symptoms & Fixes

SymptomCauseFix
Edge yellowingCheap PU material UV-oxidises / dirt trapped at edgeTPU premium PPF (GSWF Defender) rarely yellows within 5 years. If already visible: 50% IPA on edge; heavy cases need panel replacement (covered under warranty).
BubblesAir not fully squeegeed / high-pressure water forced into seamFirst month: free re-work. After 6 months: heat-gun + needle-pop by our technician only. Never DIY puncture.
Water spots / hazingHard water dried on film / not blotted after rinseDeionised water rinse, then 50% IPA wipe. Persistent haze needs in-shop detailing.
Edge liftingPressure-washer at seam / squeegee dragged across edgeReturn within 24h for heat-press re-bond. Over 1 month typically needs panel replacement.
Slow self-healingAmbient temperature below 15°CTPU memory is temperature-dependent. Use warm water (<40°C) or 10 minutes of sunlight to trigger self-heal in winter.

DO

  • Hand-wash every 2 weeks with neutral pH shampoo
  • Apply PPF-safe ceramic top coat every 6 months for gloss + hydrophobicity
  • In summer, inspect and clean edges with IPA every 3 months
  • In winter, use warm water on scratches to accelerate self-healing

DON'T

  • No alkaline shampoo or acid wheel cleaner overspray on PPF
  • No automatic car wash. No pressure-washer within 30cm of seams
  • No solid abrasive wax — it will haze matte / satin PPF
  • No stickers or magnets on top of a seam — removal can lift PPF
  • Never dry with a chamois — it will scratch matte PPF
