Routine care costs the same as any car (~HK$300/year in shampoo). Optional add-on: PPF ceramic top coat every 6 months at HK$800–$1,500, capped around HK$3,000/year. Against your original HK$18,000–$30,000 PPF investment, that is under 5% and stretches the film's usable life to 7–10 years.

When can I first wash a freshly wrapped car?

Rinse only with water for the first 7 days. From day 8 you may hand-wash with neutral pH shampoo. Do not enter a car wash or use a pressure washer at any seam for 14 days. Avoid waxing or coating in the first month — top coats bond best after full crosslink.

Can I use an automatic car wash on PPF?

Not recommended. Brush car washes catch edges. Pressure jets over 150 bar force water into seams and cause bubbling. If you must, choose touchless and keep nozzles over 40cm from the panel. Hand-wash is always safest.

How do I fix yellow edges on my PPF?

Diagnose the cause. GSWF Defender TPU should not truly yellow within 5 years — only cheaper PU films do. If the yellow tint comes off with 50% IPA, it was trapped dirt. If not, the material is oxidised and needs panel replacement; our lifetime warranty covers material failure under normal maintenance.

Can I apply ceramic coating or wax on top of PPF?

Yes — recommended. Use a PPF-designed ceramic (Gyeon PPF, CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 PPF). It boosts hydrophobicity, ease of cleaning, and UV resistance. Never use solid abrasive wax; it dulls matte / satin PPF permanently.

Will removing PPF damage the original paint?

No, if the paint is factory-original and in good condition. TPU PPF softens at 60–80°C and lifts as a whole sheet. Adhesive residue clears with 3M adhesive remover. Cars with prior repainted panels should always be removed by our technicians to avoid lifting the respray.

What is covered under the PPF warranty?

What changes between summer and winter care?

Summer: strong UV, so apply PPF ceramic top coat every 3 months for extra UV defence. Winter: self-healing slows below 15°C, so warm water or direct sun accelerates repairs; avoid blasting cold high-pressure water into seams at near-freezing temperatures to prevent adhesive embrittlement.

How soon can I wash the car after PPF installation?

Avoid washing for the first 7 days so the adhesive can fully cure. Slight moisture haze or small water pockets during the first two weeks are normal and evaporate on their own.

Can I use an automatic car wash with PPF?

Not recommended. Stiff brushes leave heavy swirl marks on the film and close-range high-pressure jets can lift the edges. Use a two-bucket hand wash, or a touchless wash that explicitly accepts PPF-protected vehicles.

Should I add a ceramic coating on top of PPF?

Yes, we recommend it. A PPF-safe ceramic topper improves water beading, reduces staining and dirt adhesion, and keeps the film easier to clean. Plan on reapplying every 12–18 months.

What should I do if an edge lifts or traps dirt?

Bring the car in promptly. Minor lifting can be reheated and re-bonded, and contaminated edges cleaned with a dedicated process. Waiting lets moisture and grit work into the adhesive, which can force a panel re-wrap.

How often should PPF be inspected?

Every 6–12 months. The check covers edges, lifting, discolouration and self-healing performance. Inspections are free during the warranty period and help keep the official warranty valid.

Which car care products are safe on PPF?

Use a pH-neutral (6–8) shampoo, a microfibre wash mitt and a separate rinse bucket. Keep wax, abrasive polish, strong iron removers and acidic wheel cleaners off the film, and never wipe matte film with glass cleaner or alcohol.

First 14 Days Timeline

Hours 0–24

Adhesive is still curing. No detergents. Do not touch edges.

Day 1–3

Rinse dust with clean water only. No car wash, no pressure-washer within 30cm of any seam.

Day 4–7

Light haze or trapped moisture at seams is normal curing artifact — do not puncture.

Day 8–14

Fully crosslinked. Normal hand wash resumes. Apply PPF-safe ceramic top coat.

Wash SOP

The 5-Step Hand-Wash

Follow these 5 steps every 2 weeks. PPF gloss and hydrophobicity stay above 90% of factory spec.

Pre-rinse (pressure)
Rinse top-down to flush grit. Keep pressure 80–120 bar and nozzle at least 40cm from bodywork.
Foam pre-soak
Apply pH 6–8 neutral shampoo (no acid, no alkaline). Dwell 3–5 minutes to lift contaminants.
Two-bucket hand wash
Separate rinse + wash buckets. Microfibre mitt, top-down, straight-line strokes only. Never circular.
Rinse + dry
Rinse top-down. Blot with long-pile drying towel. Never drag chamois across PPF edges.
Edge inspection
Check every seam after each wash. If you see lifting, message us — do not press down yourself.
