Paint Correction Hong Kong
Swirls, water etching and oxidation levelled back to a mirror

Paint correction is not wax hiding defects — it is controlled abrasion that levels the clear coat so light reflects evenly again. In Hong Kong the three usual suspects are wash-induced swirl marks, mineral water etching and UV oxidation from street parking.

  • Paint-depth gauge readings before any abrasion
  • One to three-stage polishing matched to defect depth
  • 50/50 comparison photos on every job
  • Coating or PPF applied straight after to protect the result

Identify the defect before choosing the process

Different defects need different depths of correction. Mismatch the two and the finish returns within days.

  • Swirl marks: wash-induced, cobweb pattern under light — fully correctable
  • Water etching: mineral corrosion; light cases polish out, deep ones leave craters
  • Oxidation: UV fading, worst on red and black — needs medium cut
  • Deep scratches: if your fingernail catches, it reached base coat — needs paint, not polish

The process, from gauge readings to sealing

We do not start with a heavy compound. The car is washed and decontaminated, then paint depth is sampled (typically three to five points per panel) to confirm there is enough clear coat for the planned cut.

After polishing, an IPA wipe-down removes polishing oils — otherwise the "gloss" is filler that fades in two weeks. The corrected paint is then sealed with a ceramic coating or PPF.

  • 1. Deep wash, iron and tar removal
  • 2. Paint depth measurement, logged per panel
  • 3. One to three-stage machine polishing
  • 4. IPA wipe-down to verify true correction
  • 5. Seal with ceramic coating or PPF

When repainting beats polishing

Factory clear coat is typically 35–50 microns and a three-stage correction removes roughly 2–5 microns. Below a safe remaining thickness, further polishing risks burning through to base coat.

So we say it plainly: we correct what can be corrected, and recommend paint or PPF coverage for what cannot — rather than selling a filler-wax result that lasts a week.

Correction packages

PackageDefects addressedClear coat removedTime
Enhancement (1 stage)Light swirls, dull gloss~1–2 microns~1 day
Standard (2 stage)Moderate swirls, light etching~2–3 microns1–2 days

Every package is bounded by paint-depth readings. If clear coat is thin, we recommend an alternative.
