How light transmission affects night safety: seeing at night comes before privacy
Owners often view samples in a bright showroom or in sunshine and conclude that dark glass still reads clearly. Night driving is a different world: dimmer street lighting, reflections off wet tarmac, oncoming headlight glare, uneven car park lighting, and pedestrians or cyclists emerging from shadow. What is combined light transmission, and why the box figure is not the answer
The same film gives different results on different cars, because factory glass transmission varies. Clear glass, light green glass, factory privacy glass, replaced glass and different model years all start from different baselines. Once film is applied, the number that matters is the combined result of glass plus film.
The rough logic is that combined VLT is approximately the factory glass VLT multiplied by the film VLT, divided by 100 - with the real figure taken from an on-site meter reading on the day. A film rated as high transmission can still land below expectations on already dark factory glass. The reverse is also true: never assume a light-looking film automatically complies.
Before booking, prepare your model, year, requirements for the windscreen, side windows and rear screen, and whether the car has factory privacy glass or replaced panes.
