A PPF problem doesn't always mean a full replacement. This guide covers 8 common issues (yellow edge, bubbles, lifting, water spots, hazing, cracking, adhesive residue, install marks) with causes, fixes, and the warranty claim flow.

2. Yellowing deep-dive
●Normal UV ageing
Any aliphatic TPU shows slight yellowing at 5–8 years. ΔYI < 2 is invisible to naked eye.
●Cheap PVC film (not TPU)
Severe yellowing in 2–3 years. Most HK$5,000 'full-car PPF' offers are this type.
●Untreated bug/sap residue
Protein + resin acids etch the top-coat, leaving yellow patches.
●Overly acidic shampoo
Long-term pH < 5 wash accelerates TPU yellowing.
3. Bubbles deep-dive
●First 24 hours
Adhesive not wetted — normal, usually gone next day.
●First 7 days
Adhesive gassing out — mostly self-resolves; warm palm pressure accelerates.
●1+ month later, sudden appearance
Air ingress at edge — needle bleed at shop. 3+ spots: replace panel.
●Water bubble (transparent liquid)
Water crept in after wash — shop fix is free under warranty.
4. Three 'don't DIY' warning signs
●Edge lift beyond 5cm
DIY heat gun risks scorching the film. Take it in.
●Cracks visible on film
Not recoverable and spreads fast — book within 48 hours.
●Water bubble + blackened edge
Mould at the edge — needs cleaning + panel replacement; continued use damages paint.
5. Warranty claim flow
●Step 1: Photograph
Close-up of issue + full-panel wide + VIN plate. Shoot in daylight.
●Step 2: WhatsApp submit
Send with install date + e-warranty number.
●Step 3: On-site assessment
Appointment within 24 hours. Labour free; film cost per warranty terms.
●Step 4: Coverage scope
